At my third winter

My Father spoke to me.

He gave me a calling name.

He called me

Turtle People’s Child.

And . . . when I was tall . . . he said

Now you are Turtle Woman.

I am called Turtle Woman

And I walk the path my Father showed me.

As he walked it.

As his Father walked it before him;

The path that is always old,

Forever new,

Each life creating

A path that is always the same,

Forever different

From all the others that were

And will be.

So be it

For so it is.
